Friday's Letters

Dear San Diego: I hope you're ready. I'm coming to play on Sunday! (well more work than play, but I promise to make time for you) Dear Mr: I'm really going to miss you. I think this is the longest we've been apart since we got married. Enjoy being a bachelor for a week, but don't enjoy it too much. Dear family: I love you more than words can express. I wish I wasn't so far away all the time. Dear Netflix: Please stop sucking me in with all of your TV shows on demand that I've been meaning to watch for years. It's a real time suck. Dear HVAC guy: Thanks for showing up on time last week but bringing your dog into my house crossed a few boundaries  You brought me working AC though, so I forgive you. I guess. Dear Fall: Please get here quick. I need you. Dear rose bushes: I'm glad you're coming back and I hope the previous owner of this house didn't damage you too much. You're all so pretty.

Last weekend

Since it's almost this weekend I figured I'd finally upload my pictures from last weekend. Because that's how we roll around here.

We did chores around the house in the morning (boring.) but then in the afternoon we drove downtown. It was such a nice day and wasn't too hot (only about 90*. I hate that I'm getting used to this heat. Yuck) so we strolled around for a while while I took some pictures.

We came across this guy. I love bagpipes. They remind me of my grandma. She just loves Scotland and everything to do with it, including bagpipes. That woman could listen to bagpipes for hours on end. It's nice to hear them so far from home once in a while.

What's up for us this next weekend? Wellllllll...this girl is prepping for a little jaunt out to San Diego for the week. I am beyond excited. It's for work, so I'll obviously be working most of the time, but we will have some free time. I'm excited to stay so close to the water. I've only been to San Diego once, and I loved it then so I'm excited to go back.

I probably won't post until I get back Friday night of next week, but if you want to keep up with me and my travels you can follow me on twitter or instragram. I'll be posting lost of fun stuff from San Diego and the conference I'll be working at! Don't miss out!

It's been rough

It's been a rough week in the Smith household. And it's only Wednesday night.

I needed something to make me smile tonight. And this video did the trick, so I wanted to share it.

Enjoy. :)

Friday's Letters

Dear morning commute: You may be longer than the one before but you're far prettier.

Dear HVAC guy, standing us up tonight wasn't cool. If you're not here at 8am tomorrow, I'm going to have a few choice words for you.  Dear Mr, I can't believe we've been married for 5 months already. I can't wait for 5 years. Then 50. I love you. Dear Utah, can you please turn down the heat? These 100* days are killing me. KILLING. Dear Michigan, I miss you. Lots. Dear Charlie, can we strike a deal? I'll feed you extra if you don't wake me up at 530 on the weekends. Deal? Deal. Dear diabetes, kindly take a hike. I'm tired of being a pin cushion.

Let's Talk Pinterest

I mean, who doesn't just love it?

(psst...you can follow me here if you want)

One of my favorite things to use pinterest for is for meal planning. Meal planning has really helped us cut costs and saves my sanity because I'm not stressing about what we're going to have for dinner around 545 when Mr. walks through the door.

Sometimes (okay, a lot of times) I run out of ideas of what to make. You can only make spaghetti so. many. times. before it gets old, ya know? So thats usually when I take to Pinterest. Usually on Thursdays or Fridays after work I sit down with a piece of paper. Then, I make a list of the days and pick a few 'regulars' that Mr. and I both like a lot. There's usually one or two slots left open, so I fill those up with new things to try.

Here's what I'm planning on making next week:

Saturday: Cheeseburgers
chips & corn on the cob

Sunday: Salmon in a bag (pinned here)
parmesan roasted green beans (pinned here)

Monday: Impossible Cheeseburger Pie
garlic parmesan edamame (pinned here)

Tuesday: leftovers

Wednesday: Taco Salad

Thursday: leftovers

Friday: Date night: dinner and a movie out.

I've also been picking out one sweet thing to make from my 'sweets' board every week. Last week I made no-bake chocolate chip peanut butter oatmeal cookies (from here) and ohmygosh they were to die for. I may have eaten about 4 of them in one sitting. I'm going to try these lemon sugar cookies with lemon cream cheese icing (pinned here) this week. They look ah-may-zing.

A Fresh Start

Well hello. I'm glad you found our new home. I've been wanting to start this new blog for a while now, since we got married. It only took me 5 months. I was sitting in the new house the other night and decided it was high time I got a start on this little blog.

So, welcome to An Ordinary Fairy Tale. A new blog. A fresh start in honor of a new marriage and a new house.

I've been feeling quite stressed out lately. Between closing on our house, starting insulin (I've been diabetic since I was about 14), moving into said house, and all the craziness that life tends to bring, it's been really hard on me. I came up with the title of this blog as a reminder to focus on the good things in life. The simple things that may seem ordinary to outsiders but make me happy: a hug at the end of the day from my husband, a kiss on the cheek from Charlie, editing a new photo I took, and finding the perfect piece of decor for that perfect corner in the house.

What are you going to find here?
Life.
Love.
Food.
Faith.
Style.
Challenges.
Triumphs.
Failures.
Happiness.
Sadness.
Everything.

And to kick it off, here is a little of what I'm loving lately.
